Ecofieldtrips is a Singapore-based company set up in 1997 by Bridget Hedderman and Helen Newman to coincide with the International Year of the Reef.

Initially, EFT conducted small school trips to Tioman Island, Malaysia. EFT now employs nature guides and graduates from local and international backgrounds, allowing for a greater diversity of destinations and activities. We now run larger trips for schools from all over the world and operate many programmes including A Level and IB coursework trips as well as GAP year and work experience options.

Our fieldtrips aim to inculcate positive attitudes and long-term commitment to the protection and conservation of the environment, along with the enjoyment of learning in fascinating outdoor settings. Fieldtrips also expose students to a variety of new and unique cultural experiences such as learning about padi farming techniques in Malaysia and visiting townships in South Africa.

EFT is proud to be involved in the running of the Melina Beach Turtle Hatchery as well as implementing a carbon offsetting project in Langkawi.

Feedback

Tanglin Trust School - Jonathan Avon (Head of Science)

The school has regularly used EcoFieldTrips for a number of years both for large groups and smaller, more specialist parties. I can summarise the reasons we use them as below:

  • Genuine experts with wide experience as well as knowledge of the full range of habitats found in SEA.
  • Great communication skills by these experts. they are both knowledgeable and have the ability to hold interest and to entertain.
  • Very efficient management. We can rely on the team to do what they say they will do. They do a lot of thinking for us and enable us to not worry about reliability or detailed practical issues.
  • A willingness to understand and act upon the requirements of our school courses. Active learning and thinking rather than sightseeing are what take place.
  • Great interpersonal skills with children and staff. All are made to feel comfortable and part of the experience whatever their level of knowledge.
  • A keeness to act upon constructive feedback.

West Island School Hong Kong - Helen Devine

"The trip was brilliant from the moment we were met at the airport until the time we left. It was action packed, fun, informative and educational. The staff were inspirational and showed care and compassion for our students. The balance between work and play was spot on and I would definitely like to work with EFT again and will be sure to recommend you to other ESF schools.

Many thanks to everyone who made the trip possible."

Seoul Foreign School Student - Sharon S.

"On my journey to Tioman Island, for one thing, I truly got to know the meaning of the words hot, sweaty and humid. However, I feel that this trip taught me a lot about the environment and sea life.  I learned that everything we do has a consequence.  Every time we chop down a tree, clear out a rainforest, don’t recycle and more, there is a consequence.  Fish die and habitats are destroyed.  I learned conservation, respect, and discipline for our environment is very important."

Raffles Girls' School - Lim Cheng Puay

"Kudos to Ecofieldtrips for another excellent trip. The activities were very engaging and the students certainly learnt a lot and more importantly got to experience Nature up-close. Many students had commented that they would like to come back again."

Canadian International School - Kristine Greenlaw

"Thanks again Bridget for a great trip. I have already received SMS messages at home from kids telling me how much they enjoyed it all. Promit feels it was a life changing experience! I will definately pass on our compliments to James Dalziel to ensure that we continue to use you as our eco-fieldtrip provider in both the IB and OSSD curriculums."

Tanjong Katong Secondary School - Mildred Yap

"A very fruitful and excellent fieldtrip for the students. Truly experiential learning fot the students. Trainers were excellent, a lot of knowledge acquired from the trip."

Nanyang Girls' High School - Amy Lim

"Sek Chuan and Karen have been excellent facilitators to ensure the smooth running of the programme. A big THANK YOU to them."

Henry Park Primary School - Minnie Yit

Sarawak Fieldtrip 2005

"Please give my very late appreciation and thanks to Sek Chuan and Nurse Jenny... they have been very very helpful and kind, and nice not only to the kids but to the teachers too. They took a proactive role in overall crowd control and took the initiative to carry out the activities.... their expertise in nature and overall safety for the kids and teachers have been most comforting & helpful.

Also many thanks to Bob... the Melanau kids simply love him and some of them shed tears at the departure in the airport... Bob must have made more than an impact in the educational side, he must have touched their hearts somehow.

I cannot help but say that I enjoyed the trip and had a peace of mind during it. With Sek Chuan, Jenny and Bob around, there was very little to worry about. Eunice, who went on a trip last year (led by another tour group), even commented that she felt more relaxed in this year's trip. We (the teachers from Melanau) didn't even feel pressured during the trip, nor were we rushed from place to place. It was a no-stress, enjoyable trip just because your Ecofieldtrips staff were there to play an active role in handling the kids.

Thank you so much for all of your dedication and help to make this trip successful!"

International School Singapore - Andrew McManus

"I was most impressed by the field trip your company organised for our Science students on Sept 10th of this year."

International School Singapore - Dr Mathai Mathews

"Staff were very knowledgeable and knew how to interact with students. I have NO complaints. Karen and Sek Chuan were liked by my students and they learnt a lot from them."

Raffles Institution - Jasbir Koh (Secondary 4 English Teacher)

" Dear Bridget, the boys thoroughly enjoyed the trip and they found it very educational too even though there is greater emphasis on the geography and marine life.

They were able to use the information gained and apply it to critical thinking especially with current GP topics on conservation, tourism etc.The boys are still talking about the trip and this is good especially when they recall the wonderful bonding that took place. There are many strengths in the trip. I too learned a lot in the short 3 days. I marvel at myself for snorkeling, something I have never envisaged myself doing. Thanks. This trip will be recommended to the HOD for next year's Overseas Learning Journeys.

I must commend Michelle, Cheryl , Jenny and you for the wonderful job you all did."
